Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the name given to a deeply relaxing state. Having hypnotherapy, means you are intentionally making time to wind yourself down, to let go of any tension allowing it to flow out of the body and disappear.

All hypnotherapy is self-hypnotherapy, it is not something that is done to you, but rather, it is a state of deep relaxation, which successfully enables you to bi-pass, your own critical thinking, this can be powerful because the conscious mind often sabotages or blocks positive, effective changes.

This bi-pass allows new suggestions, which are all beneficial, to be more readily received and accepted by your deeper unconscious mind. Any suggestions to your unconscious mind and techniques used will be agreed by you and are devised according to your needs, goals, and history; I follow the BACP moral and ethical framework to promote positive enhancements. These suggestions can then be delivered directly to your subconscious; this allows you to access unknown resources and to enhance exiting capacities and potentials, to be your true and authentic self.

Hypnotherapy is just deep relaxation

Hypnotherapy uses Hypnosis which is a safe and natural state of consciousness. Nearly everyone enters hypnosis many times in their daily lives. We are in a hypnotic trance for example, when we are engrossed in something and we do not hear someone calling our name. You may have experienced hypnosis or a trance-like state many times, although you may not have called it hypnosis. Have you ever realised you have been daydreaming? Or have you ever driven somewhere and not known how you got there? Hypnotherapy utilises this same trance-state, which is an everyday naturally occuring calming experience. It feels like a deep state of relaxation, whilst you are still fully aware of what is being said to you. This is a natural and effective way of making contact with the inner self, the unconscious mind. This is where the cause of our issues and habits are embedded. The unconscious mind is a remarkable resource of unrecognised strengths, creativity and potential.

Hypnotherapy – Inner work for outer change

Hypnotherapy can enable you to gain powerful insights into your behaviours, expectations and personal beliefs.   As your therapist I will help you to access the thoughts or beliefs that maybe holding you back, or creating difficulties, in coping with certain situations, phobias or habits. Helping you to “re-programme” your thought processes or behaviours, having an awareness of these beliefs and thoughts can often make them less powerful and you can regain more confidence to cope with situations you were unable to before.

Why Choose Hypnotherapy?

What the research says:-

In the past four years there have been 91 relevant RCTs conducted worldwide. They suggest that hypnosis works in a wide range of situations, including pain control, smoking cessation, anxiety disorders and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). There is also evidence that hypnosis has physiological effects as well as psychological ones: (Journal of Psychosomatic Research, vol 64, p 621).

Hypnotherapy and training in self-hypnosis can help persons achieve remarkable success in alleviating anxiety, not only in anxiety disorders, but also in any problem involving anxiety. The author describes the role of hypnosis in the treatment of several disorders and provides clinical examples illustrating treatment of generalized anxiety, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorders. He concludes that because hypnosis exploits the intimate connection between mind and body, it provides relief through improved self-regulation and also beneficially affects cognition and the experience of self-mastery. (Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic, 54, 209-216)
